The install process listed in the current instructions works just fine for the .tar file. It even comes up with a menu item, which is even more wonderful so I don't have to add that entry manually.
However to get it to run correctly I found I had to install two additional libraries.
These were:
p5-Locale-gettext
p5-JSON
After I installed these, Kildclient works just grand.
